This was an engineered project that consisted of the construction, configuration, and startup of a brand-new Wastewater Treatment Plant for South Sioux City, Nebraska. HOA Solutions role in this project encompassed everything regarding the control system, including PLC Panel/Cabinet design, construction, installation, operating SCADA and network security layout design, configuration, set-up, and instrumentation procurement with startup.
The PLC cabinets consisted of four master control panels, each associated with and tied to a variety of MCC’s, vendor supplied control panels, gas monitoring relay logic panels, HOA supplied local control stations, and a variety of instrumentation. Siemens series PLCs controlled each of these four master control panels, each of which had a local thin client access to the overall SCADA system.
HOA Solutions completed all the configuration and setup of the SCADA operating system, in this case VTSCADA. This required close communication and teamwork amongst the half dozen or so major sub-system vendors. As part of this new plant implementation, HOA Solutions worked closely with HDR to build out a secure yet very functional network to keep communications robust by utilizing a fiber ring network configuration.
Instrumentation for the project was primarily supplied by HOA Solutions, with all startup and configuration of the various devices conducted by HOA Solutions technicians. This included:
- Thermal Mass Flow Meters
- Inline Magnetic Flow Meters
- Ultrasonic Level Sensor and Transmitters for Flow Measurement of Parshall Flume
- Non-Contact Radar Level Transmitters
- Tilt-Type Level Float Switches
- Single and Differential Type Pressure Transmitters, Switches, and Gauges
- Temperature Transmitters and Switches
- Analytical Measurement Devices (pH, DO, Conductivity, etc.)
- Gas Sensors (Combustible and Toxic)
