McCook, Nebraska is a municipality in southwestern Nebraska. Their water system consists of a water treatment plant, five wells, one booster station, and two elevated storage tanks. The wastewater system consists of a wastewater treatment plant and lift stations.
In 2023, HOA Solutions completed a project to upgrade a majority of their control system. At the water treatment plant, HOA upgraded three control panels, installed a new SCADA computer, and integrated with one additional local control panel and five remote well panels.
The controls were also replaced in the booster station and both water towers. At the wastewater plant, HOA installed a new redundant SCADA computer and one new control panel. In conjunction, two lift stations were upgraded to include cellular monitoring and alarming.
Due to the geographic layout of the system, HOA used a variety of communication methods to integrate all sites, including cellular, spread spectrum radio, point to point high-bandwidth radios, and VPN connections over the internet. All of these communication methods allowed HOA to aggregate the data from the Allen Bradley PLC’s back into the newly installed VTSCADA Software. The capabilities of VTSCADA allowed HOA to install 5 thin client operator interfaces, spread throughout the system, in addition to the two redundant SCADA servers.
